About This Item
The Ward Ritchie Press, Los Angeles, 1973; First Edition, 2nd printing; octavo, 160 pages; brown boards; gilt titles. Authoritative history of Los Angeles by fifty year resident John D. Weaver, whose knowledge of the City led to his selection to write of the entry on Los Angeles for the 1974 edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, and the 1980 Capra Press book "Los Angeles: The Enormous Village." A prolific writer, Weaver was author of two novels and eight non-fiction books. Digby Diehl, book editor of the Los Angeles Times from 1969 to 1978, said of Weaver, "He was the first person to really give a true historical sensibility to everyday Angelenos. Until his book came out, there was really nothing that made the history of Los Angeles comprehensible to the guy on the street." Very Good Plus, in a clean and bright Very Good dust jacket with the flaps shallowly clipped. Signed on the f.f.e.p. by the author.
