About This Item

[8], ix, [3], 3-241, [1] pp. Green paper-covered boards quarter bound in pale green paper with gold lettering on the spine. Price of $8.95 on front flap of jacket. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize. McPherson was the first African-American writer to win the Pulitzer Prize for fiction and Elbow Room was his final collection of short stories. A nice copy of one of the more difficult Pulitzer Prize winning books to find in collectible condition. Very Good with toning to the gutters and pastedowns in a Very Good lightly edge-worn dust jacket showing a couple of tiny chips and a small scratch to the front panel.

Synopsis

A beautiful collection of short stories that explores modern racial inequity, Elbow Room is alive with warmth and humor. Bold and very real, these twelve stories examine a world we all know but find difficult to define. Whether a story dashes the bravado of young street toughs or pierces through the self-deception of a failed preacher, challenges the audacity of a killer, or explodes the jealousy of two lovers, James Alan McPherson has created an array of haunting images and memorable characters in an unsurpassed collection of honest, masterful fiction.
