About This Item

Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1977. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. First edition. Gutter cracked before title page with title page coming loose, offsetting on endpapers, small stain on front fly, still a very good copy in a good only dustwrapper with closed tear mid-spine, bottom edges of dustwrapper dampstained and narrow lengthwise tear with loss on bottom edge of rear panel. McPherson's second book, a Pulitzer Prize-winning collection of stories. An increasingly difficult book to find in acceptable condition.

Synopsis

A beautiful collection of short stories that explores modern racial inequity, Elbow Room is alive with warmth and humor. Bold and very real, these twelve stories examine a world we all know but find difficult to define. Whether a story dashes the bravado of young street toughs or pierces through the self-deception of a failed preacher, challenges the audacity of a killer, or explodes the jealousy of two lovers, James Alan McPherson has created an array of haunting images and memorable characters in an unsurpassed collection of honest, masterful fiction.
