With several plates and extra-illustrated with 26 original photographs and several other clipped illustrations mounted throughout. [x], 274 pp. 8vo. Inscribed and Extra-Illustrated. Inscribed by Bill Woodley, Ruth Hales Woodley, "Bongo" (Bill Jr.) Woodley, and Dennis Holman, to Iris and Don Hunt, co-founders of the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy. Bill Woodley (1929-1995) was warden of Kenya's Mountain National Parks, a leader in the movement against elephant poaching, and a close friend of Peter Beard. (One of Beard's earliest safari's, in 1961, was organized by Ruth Hales, who later became Woodley's wife.) This copy has been EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED à la Beard, with numerous original photographs of elephants in the wild, of Bill and Ruth Woodley and other figures in the book, places described, etc, as well as illustrations taken from other sources. Also signed by Danny Woodley, Ruth and Bill's second son, beneath a photo of him.
