Lovely unmarked royal blue cloth with black lettering to spine, b/w frontispiece by Louis Ward (who also designed the dustwrapper), VG+/Fine copy in VG complete unclipped dustwrapper, just a few closed tears and rubs at corners, a little crushed/rubbed at spine ends - a delightful unfaded copy of a very scarce title, especially in its nice original dustjacket.

I have only been able to locate three other copies of this book in this country, one in the University of Louisville Library, one in the Florida State Library, and one in my own library that I am offering in a separate listing. However, there might be some copies in private hands. "Sunday Chatterbox" is an oversized children's book, measuring 7 5/8 by 10 inches. The book is unpaginated. It is in Good+ condition. The stories, poems, and songs for children are both secular and religious (bible stories). So why is this collectable? Not only due to its rarity, but because of the 90 gorgeous pen-and-ink drawings found throughout. (I suspect that other copies no longer exist because they've been cut up and their illustrations sold as individual prints.) Moderate shelfwear with frayed spine ends. The spines are a bit darkened. Previous owner's name, dated 1882, is written on both front free endpapers, along with that of a later owner. Vol 1 has a gutter crack at pg. 273. Both volumes have short tears in the cloth at the rear joints.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Illustrated throughout with decorative head and tail pieces plus frontis and fifteen full page plates, each with a plain paper guard. Neat previous owners 3 line inscription (dated 1876) on the half title. Some minor spotting to a few pages but generally a clean and bright copy in the publishers highly decorative green cloth binding with bevelled edged boards. Elaborate gilt and blind stamped decoration and lettering to the front board. The rear board with a blind stamped decorative panel pattern. Spine fully decorated and lettered in gilt. Off white endpapers. All edges gilt. Some bumping to the extremities and the spine a little dulled but overall a very good copy of this pretty book. A classic piece of decorative Victoriana.

(7.2 x 5.3 inches). 128pp. Illustrated with 8 fine colour plates, plus 7 line drawings (chapter headpieces), and decorative title page by Cole and Anning Bell. A very good bright copy in the publishers green cloth biding with elaborate gilt decoration and lettering to the front board and spine. Colour illustration mounted onto the front board. Some minor offsetting to the blank endpapers from the dustwrapper and a small amount of bleed from the green dye used on the top edge of the text block to the very top of a few leaves, otherwise a lovely clean copy throughout. In the original dustwrapper with a colour plate mounted to the front panel. A few minor chips to the wrapper edges but generally a very good example. ---- The book is not dated but the adverts on the wrapper suggest a publication date of about 1919 and there is also a publishers advert slip loosely inserted which has the date 9.1919 at the bottom. -----… Read More

(4.6 x 3.6 inches). 8pp, plus publishers green wraps, printed in black to the front panel with title, publisher and woodcut illustration. Unsewn but with the later addition of a pin to keep it all together. Each page with one or two, a total of ten, woodcuts and text printed below. A few creases to the page edges but overall a very good example of this rare edition. ---- No copy of this edition listed on Worldcat or Copac. ---- Fairburn was located at this address from 1820 to 1842.- P.A.H. Brown. London publishers and printers. p. 65. ---- The Osborne collection in Toronto has a similar edition, dated 1820 and published by Fairburn, that it records as being illustrated by Smeeton.
