About This Item
Philadelphia: Lea and Blanchard, 1843. Hardcover. Complete 3-volume set. 8vo. Quarter calf with gilt spine lettering and blue marbled paper over boards. viii, 597pp; iv, 592pp; iv, 648pp. Numerous illustrations and partly-colored maps, 1 foldout colored map. Very good overall. Binding a tad edgeworn, with marbled paper well scuffed, though all hinges tight and the spine giltstamping remains bright; preliminary leaves age toned and mildly foxed, though main text blocks bright and clean. A tight and attractive revised later printing of this noteworthy 1836 text. Revised by Thomas G. Bradford. The foldout map of the United States in Volume III shows the entire eastern half and is age toned and bears some old archival mends on verso; complete and fairly attractive nevertheless. Mild ex-library, with no spine marking and very few and inoffensive other markings. SABIN 51499.
