Black cloth (faded) with gilt lettering and publisher medallion on spine; gilt medallion on front.FON on FFEP of each volume.Covers are faded and bumped, with wear on the top & heels of spines (volumes 2 & 3 top spines are frayed), and bent corners. Pages are age tanned with occasional stains. Volume 1 protective tissue is torn, cracking at half-title all volumes.

It's not ofter that you find two original volumes published / printed in 1726. Overall, these titles are in V Good condition and 100% legible ( albeit with Olde English spelling ) The titles are leather bound (spines and corners) with printed board covers.
A previous owner has pasted additional pages at the start of Volume 1 and pasted various newspaper clippings and hand written texts relevant to the themes of Mr Toland dated through the 1800's further enhancing the value of the set.

1893-1899. George Bell & Sons. Nine Volume set - Vols. I thru VIII plus "Pepysiana". Edited by Henry B. Wheatley, F.S.A. Ivory and tan boards with gold lettering. Condition overall is good. Moderate foxing on inside of front and back covers and some foxing throughout text, mostly on photo plates. Deckle edges show the brown coloring of age. First volume has statement "only 250 copies of this Volume are printed on Large Paper, of which this is No. 146" with the 146 handwritten in ink. Vol. II doesn't have this statement; Vols. III through VIII & "Pepysiana" show the printed statement but no number.
