A member of Parliament since 1945 author observed Britain's voluntary dissolution of her Empire in the 40's and 50's. He explains thwe results of these actions, shows why she chose to dissolve her Empire and reveals postimperial opportunities. He illustrates the ebb of imperialism in the first half of the 19th C and explains the imperialist heyday from 1870 to 1914.
