The publisher's author blurb tells us that Michael Murphy is a cofounder of the Esalen Institute and the author of two novels, Golf in the Kingdom and Jacob Atabet. Since 1971, he has traveled widely in the Soviet Union The premise of this novel: ''A CIA memorandum from April of 1973 tells a fantastic story of a Soviet spaceship crashing when the two pilots see an apparition. The Soviet government commissioned a study of the vision and the relation to UFO reports. The Soviet Academy of Science was torn by controversy and uncomfortable question were raised. This memorandum was released in 1979 with a few sections deleted for security reasons. Darwin Fall, an American publisher and expert in the body's supernormal capacities, becomes involved. Likewise Kirov, an initiate of a mystic school in Central Asia and an agent of the KGB and the Soviet Union's leading expert on parapsychology.
