Historic association copy with small neat red stamp on endpaper stating 'Gift of The People of the United States Through the Victory Book campaign (A.L.A.-A.R.C.-U.S.O.) To the Armed Forces and Merchant Marine,' and with the signature of U.S.O.'s A.J. Fakler and, on endpaper, the handwritten '1944' date signifying this copy was in the World War II European theater of operations, yet book has been well preservede, with only minor rubbing to edges but clean, unmarked and whole, and protected by the thick loose Mylar cover. The first and best known book by one of America's most iconic poets--a novel about the poet's World War I incarceration in France, timely for its gifted audience. Facsimile dust jacket provided.
