About This Item
[Compendium of the Theory of Ecclesiastical Music - An Anonymous Treatise of Chrysanthus]
Thessalonice: Zetes, 2013. In greek. Soft cover, 24 cm, 264 pp.
In 1877 an anonymous treatise was published in Paris under the title: Compendium of the Theory of Byzantine Music, translated into French by the Hellenist and important scholar of the era Emile Burnouf. The publisher was the French musician Bourgault-Ducoudray. The current edition argues that Bishop Chrysanthus of Madytus (1770-1846) , the great reformer of the Byzantine music, was the author of the Compendium.
