Octavo 21.5x13 cm). - 4 preliminary blanks, [6], X, 348, [1] pages. - Hand-tooled red morocco with embossed decorations in gilt: on front cover, within borders: 4 corner leaves and the British Lion; on the spine: 6 bands - title, author and year on 3 separate red labels, as well as toled decorations in gilt. Marbled end-papers. - Very fine. - Interior fine, except for some offset toning opposite to the 4 plates. - With "Errata" on last page - With 40 copper engraved illustrations on 4 plates, frontispiece showing an archer stressing his bow, and on the title page a quiver of arrows. - History of bows and arrows in Britain, France, the Roman Empire, Hellenistic Greece, Mycenea and the Mideast. - Chapter 11 describes royal decrees that promoted or restricted archery training.
