Finley's advertisements printed on the final page. In the original publisher's paper covered boards. Contemporary owner's ink name stamp on title page and signature on front free endpaper, and associated neat autograph notes on front pastedown. This copy also has the ownership signature and ink name stamp, on the front free endpaper, of a noted American psychologist. Spine neatly reinforced with green tape, else a good or better untrimmed copy with toning and scattered foxing. First published in London in 1804 by the Scottish physician Thomas Trotter. Trotter was among the first physicians to declare alcoholism a disease, and his essay is now considered a classic in the history of psychiatry.
