About This Item
Alexandria: The Working Week Press, 2004. Oversize trade paperback. Light shelfwear. Very good. 229 pp. From the back cover: Every Second through its imitatio of the Bible, Homer and Vergil continues in the high tradition, if not the elevated manner, of Ovid, Dante and Milton. The publication of this diptych completes the first half of Sentence of the Gods, MM's 26-volume universal epic, eighteen of whose volumes have now appeared. The present book's first segment imitates Old and New Testaments (Every, 1-4), Every, 5), its next two, Iliad and Odyssey (Second, 1&2), its last, the person of Vergil on his final return to Brundisium (Second, 3). Every features Moses, David, Herod and the Christian diaspora. Second intermingles with Achilles and Odysseus, with Homer and Vergil, political, philosophical and cultural figures drawn from the antique and modern worlds of Anatolia, Hellas and Italia.
