A signed first edition in a deluxe Franklin Library issuance of this short novel by Louis Auchincloss, which is set in England at the time of Queen Anne. Illustrated by Istvan Ventilla, with genealogical table of the British Monarchy from James I to George II. Signed by author on a leaf near front of book, and with his special introductory note. Issued as an entry in the publisher's Signed First Edition Society series, issued prior to the trade edition by Houghton Mifflin. One of an unspecified number in this limited edition. --- Bound in full red bonded leather covers with two raised bands on spine. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges all in bright gilt (AEG). Interior leaves printed on high-quality papers with gold/red/brown faux marbled endpapers, with red sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker.
