Description

San Francisco:: Dave Haselwood Books, 1967.. Paperbound . BINDING/CONDITION: paperbound; Good condition;. 8vo (9 inches tall) . Description: From the publisher's blurb: ''William Burroughs in this his latest work has thrown away all traces of a polite regard for the sacred cows of narrative fiction. In The Exterminator, pieces of his earlier writing, magazine and newspaper articles, headlines and catch phrases of the day are cut up, scrambled and thrown at the reader, or rather, sprayed at him in the same way a machine gun sprays its target. Almost nothing remains in a narrative context; everything is anatomized and forced to exist in an agonized truce. Chessman, viruses, sex, narcotics, and many other concerns of Burroughs scramble together commenting on one another simply by their proximity. The effect is like being turned loose in someone's unconscious, the manifestations are various but they all carry the quality of one man. Brion Gysin contributed the poems and calligraphy which finally 'rub out the word'.'' And I am glad the publisher described this book because I certainly cannot. This was originally published in 1960.
