About This Item

London: Osprey, 1991. 128 pp, 11 7/8" H. Profuesly illustrated with colour photographs. "The 'son' of the Northrop YF-17 Cobra, the Hornet grew both in weight and capability after being ordered by the Navy to replace the venerable Vought A-7 Corsair II. Now an integral part of the modern carrier air wing, the F/A-18 has dramatically increased the capabilities of fighter and attack squadrons already embarked aboard the Navy's 15-strong carrier fleet. Not all Hornets spotted in American skies are Navy property though, the 'flying leathernecks' of the US Marine Corps having received their first F/A-18s at virtually the same time as the 'blue water' force. Over a dozen USMC squadrons are now equipped with the versatile Hornet. Travelling further afield, Canada, Australia, Spain and South Korea have all chosen the F/A-18 to fulfill the fighter/attack requirements of their respective air forces past the year 2000. (This book) takes you aboard ship with a frontline Navy squadron as they patrol the barren expanses of the Atlantic, or takes you on a scrub skimming attack sortie over the parched wastelands of the 'outback' with the Royal Australian Air Force." Book slightly cocked, very light edge wear, small faint erasure mark on free front endpaper. Dust jacket has very light rubbing, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, minor edge wrinkling.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good.
