The author was arrested in 1934 during a purge by Stalin and spent eight years in political isolation. The book centers not so much on her as it does on the people she meets in the camps, including a woman who had worked in the residence of Stalin. Stated first edition from 1955. Black cloth binding with red cloth at spine; red and black lettering on spine only. Binding tight and square with no flaws other than the previous owner's signature and label inside the front board. Unclipped dust jacket is bright and clean with two minor repairs at top of front page and minor wear at top of spine. 311 pages.
