London: Leonard Smithers, 1896. First edition. Beardsley, Aubrey. The rare Large Paper issue, copy number 3 of thirty, printed on Japanese vellum, numbered and initialed by the publisher. Dowson's first collection of poetry, containing his most famous lines: "They are not long, the days of wine and roses" from "Vitae Summa Brevis," and "I have been faithful to thee, Cynara! In my fashion" from "Non Sum Qualis eram Bonae Sub Regno Cynarae," this latter poem the title source for both Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind and Cole Porter's "Always True to you in my Fashion". Full red morocco, top edge gilt,others uncut, bound by Studio Ars Libri, Amsterdam. The original imitation parchment covers and spine, with gilt design on the front cover by Aubrey Beardsley, are bound in. Fine condition. Bookplate of Barry Humphries.

First Authorized Edition, first issue, with "Saint" in imprint spelled out in full; errata is present, lacking the imprimatur leaf (dated Nov. 11, 1662), and all textual errors uncorrected. London: Printed by J.G. for Richard Marriot, 1663. [bound with] "Hudibras. The Second Part. By the Author of the First". [4], 216 pages. Also, third part dated 1678. Bound in exceptionally fine binding and in very good condition with the bookplates of Daniel Henry Holmes, an avid book collector. This edition certainly is one of the rarest being that it is a first issue. A pirate copy came out the year before in 1662 and all proceeds from the sale of the book by the thief were recovered by Butler. Paris, 1930. Unbound. Paul Fort's original manuscript, neatly and beautifully written in ink; quarto, 79 leaves of heavy cream paper and laid loose into a green portfolio. Paul Fort drew much of his inspiration from the Middle Ages, and the aballad form that he used almost exclusively was taken from the same period. He filled some forty volumes with his delicate ballads. He was also active in the theatre, even before the turn of the century, writing some plays himself and producing what were considered "difficult" plays by some of his contemporaries. In 1956, he received the Grand Literary Prize of the City of Paris for his works. Fine. Together with the limited edition of the book (#48 of 200 copies), Inscribed to Madame Christian Schram Senior and with an 11 line holograph poem, initialed "P. F." and dated Paris, May, 1931; and with an excellent 4 page autograph letter signed and dated October 8, 1930. A near fine copy.

Two folios in original cloth with large colour card onlay on front board and gilt floral motif on rear, 24 full-page chromolithographic plates each facing a matching gilt printed poem; cloth mildly browned in book 1, binding rubbed and mild preliminary foxing in book 2, a very good set with beautiful clean plates.

This is copy number 1172 of 1200 signed by Matisse in pencil on colophon.100 colourful crayon and pencil lithographs on loose pages, printed on thick Velin d'Arches paper at the Mourlot workshop in Paris. Illustrated frontis of medieval poet Charles, Duke of Orleans [1394-1465], who, taken prisoner after the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. Many of his poems were written during his long captivity over a 25 year period. He wrote courtly and romantic poems set in ballad and rondeau forms. Copy number 3 of 5 [from an edition of 500] of Bukowski's private "Author's Edition," with a typescript signed by Bukowski stapled in at the center. According to Aaron Krumhansl, "As late as the early 1970s Bukowski still retained multiple copies of this title. At some point he created a small private 'Author's Edition' by tipping in or binding in at the center staple either an original signed illustration or a signed typescript poem. Not less than three nor more than five such copies were created." This copy in particular is mentioned by Krumhansl as the Polak copy. 23 pp. Stapled tan wraps. Near Fine, faint waves to wraps. Bukowksi's only self-published chapbook, comprised of "overlooked (or looked-over and shunned)" poems.

Three old vertical folds, strip of residue from former mat tape along extreme top edge verso, otherwise very good. Whitman writes "Dear M.P.," forwarding manuscripts of poems [not present] for consideration for publication: "...This is the best I can do for yr request -- The pieces have not hitherto been publish'd [insertion: 'at all'] but are to be [insertion: 'finally'] included in the [insertion: 'vol. to come'] little & out (such 'out' as it may be probably small one) in ab't three weeks or longer -- If Mr R can publish them before it will do & the proprieties conformed to - the price is $10."
