About This Item
Simon & Schuster. New York. 2009. First Simon & Schuster Trade Paperback Edition (stated), later printing. Minor shelf wear without fading of color or pages. Book is tight and square. Inscribed by author in black marker on page after reviews in front of book. Kranz (born 1933) was NASA's second Chief Flight Director. He worked on missions involving the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs. His work included Apollo 11 (first lunar landing) and Apollo 13 (successful effort to save the crew from near-fatal catastrophe). The phrase "Failure is not an option" is well remembered from the Apollo 13 movie that starred Ed Harris as Kranz. While the phrase was coined by Bill Broyles and never given by Kranz, his body of work at NASA shows that he lived the phrase and failure for events in space was no an option under his direction. 6x9.25 in. 415 pg.
