In original dust jacket that has minor chips to top edge now in mylar cover. Text looks never read and is clean and bright with very minor tanning due to age. This book has been classified as culturally significant. Scarce if not rare in this condition Robert Ranulph Marett was born on the Channel Island of Jersey on June 13, 1866. He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford, specializing in the classics, philosophy, and ethics, and in 1891 he was elected fellow of Exeter College, Oxford, where he remained for the whole of his academic career.He traveled widely in Europe, visited Australia once, in 1914, and in 1930 delivered the Lowell Lectures in Boston. He was Gifford Lecturer at the University of Saint Andrews twice, in 1931–1932 and 1932–1933, and the two published volumes of these lectures, Faith, Hope and Charity in Primitive Religion (1932) and Sacraments of Simple Folk (1933), Marett believed to embody his best work. He also had an interest in prehistoric archaeology, and he conducted and supervised excavations at the Mousterian site of La Cotte de Saint Brelade on his native island of Jersey. He died on February 18, 1943.(Cengage); 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 239 pages .
