London: John W. Parker , 1838. Cloth. Good. 6.5" by 4". Not Stated. A scarce complete two volume set of the second edition of this ornithological study of the history of birds, with illustrations. Complete in two volumes. Scarce set. Second edition. Volume one is illustrated with a frontispiece and six plates. Collated complete. Volume two is illustrated with a frontispiece and seven plates. Lacking one plate. A detailed history of birds, with commentary on classification, the structure of birds, internal organs, song, characteristics, habits, and habitats. As well as details of each species in flight. Written by Edward Stanley, a British statesman and ornithologist. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine and marks to the boards. Front hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot or handling mark. Light age toning to the endpapers. Plate facing page 120 of volume one is detached but present with a small closed tear. Front endpaper of volume one has been removed. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper of volume two dated 1858. Good
