Summary

The long awaited Baby WhispererâÈçs guide to building a strong and loving family.

As Tracy Hogg put it, âÈêParenting is something you do. Family is something you are.âÈë But how can we make our families work better? Before her untimely death in 2004, HoggâÈ'a.k.a. the Baby WhispererâÈ'and her longtime coauthor, journalist Melinda Blau, conceived a fourth book that took the commonsense principles that made the Baby Whispering books such a sensation and applied them to the whole family. Family Whispering enables readers to see everyday challenges, from sibling rivalry to time management, with fresh eyes.

Informed by a wealth of new research and stories of real families, this book is filled with the handy tips and memorable acronyms that Baby Whisperer fans have come to expect. Blau uses the Baby Whisperer philosophy to illuminate how the multiple bonds and interactions that unfold within a household of adults and children coalesce to form a larger family dynamic. Featuring quizzes, checklists, and worksheets that help boil down big-picture concepts to day-to-day actions, the book presents invaluable advice that is simple, clear, practical, and often counterintuitive (asking kids to help more around the home can make them happier, for instance, while family setbacks can often make a family closer). What emerges is a hopeful, practical plan for designing families that are happier and more productive.

Media reviews

"Systems theory teach us that one individual has the power to affect a larger group. Give that individual a book like Family Whispering, and he or she will have the knowledge and the tools to positively change and impact the most basic and important group of all: the family. Thanks to Melinda and Tracy for helping to make the world a better place--one parent, one child, and now one family at a time."
