Boston & New York: Haskell and Post; Lakeside Press, 1887. Hardcover. Two folio volumes complete, with the 90 stunning full page photogravure plates of works by artists such as Rosa Bonheur, Gerome, Cabanel, Frederic Church, Bouguereau, Corot Fortuny, Courbet, Millet, Kaulbach, Daubigny, Dore and Alma Tadema.
The photogravure plates are tissue plates, tipped on; this is the stated "Japan and China paper edition, before letter." They were produced by the Lakeside Press.
Folio, Vol. I: 45 plates, 120pp. Vol II, pp121 - 240. All edges gilt. Half red buckram (restoration of spine) and black buckram. Boards rubbed, bumped at corners, front inner hinges strengthened with mesh strip, rear end papers replaced. The plates in very good + condition, bright and clean and completely free of fox spotting, each with the original tissue guard. OCLC: 960051862.
