London: Whittaker & Co, 1834. First edition. Fine Binding. Near Fine. 8" by 5". Baxter. A beautiful first edition example of Robert Mudie's ornithological treatise. This work contains the first example of Baxter's polychromatic illustrations. The vignette title pages to these volumes are the very first successful specimens of G Baxter's desirable polychromatic printing. With a scarce, unlisted plate of a Blue Tit, Yellow Bunting, Cross Bill and Wood Lark.To the rear of both volumes are publisher's adverts. Nineteen hand-coloured plates across both volumes total.   Comprising of a frontispiece, vignette title and nine plates to volume I in addition to a frontispiece, vignette title and eight plates to volume II. Collated, complete.A beautiful example of this important ornithological work. In quarter morocco bindings, with cloth covered boards. Externally, in an excellent condition with minor shelfwear. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound. Prior owner's notations to the binder's instruction leaves. Pages are bright Occasional light spots to pages. Small loss to the fore-edge of page 363 to volume I, not affecting the text. Near Fine
