This edition was revised by the author. Father Ayrout was an educator and sociologist whose work on the Fellahin (often spelled Fellaheen) was authoritative. It was first published in French in 1940. The International Journal of Middle East Studies has written on his many works on the Fellaheen. He continued to write on the need for land reform in Egypt which keep these peasant agrarian workers from moving from their impoverished state. He founded the Association of Upper Egypt for Education and Development. There is an introduction by Dr. Mohamed Ghallib, Professor of Philosophy, Azhar University. Copies are uncommon. OCLC records copies at Harvard, MIT, and at Bilkent University Library in Turkey. Bound in blue cloth, spine lettering gilt, decorative snake skin designed endpapers, corners lightly bumped or worn, spine rubbed. A very good copy.
