About This Item

Curacao, Netherlands Antilles: Euro-Dutch Publishers, 1982. 9.25" wide by 12.25" tall. Clean, square, tight, unmarked copy. Not a book club edition. Not price clipped (35.00). No owner's name or bookplate. No remainder mark. Illustrations throughout, a few in full-color. Laid-in is a letter, SIGNED by the AUTHOR, dated June 26, 1989. It is addressed to a New Jersey publisher, Polyeconomics, and asks if they might be interested in publishing a revised edition of this book. The letter says that Jack Kemp has promised to provide a Dust Jacket blurb for the revised edition. Also enclosed are a new Preface and Table of Contents that the author has revised for the proposed new edition. From the Dust Jacket: "Taxpayers are restless... Rebellious stirrings among taxpayers are nothing new, as [the author] shows many times in this fascinating illustrated history - the first attempt to tell the story of taxation from ancient times to the present... Charles Adams acknowledges that 'taxes are the fuel that makes civilzation run' - yet he sees many faults in the way Western man is taxed, and his ideas for curing those faults form the valuable climax to this highly readable book..." Bibliography. Index. Heavy book - shipping at cost. Original maroon cloth . With letter SIGNED by the AUTHOR. First Edition. Oversize Hardcover. Near Fine condition/Very Good dust jacket. 307pp.

About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
