Collier Macmillan, 1993. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Soft cover. Fine. First Collier trade paperback edition/printing. Very Fine (very minor front cover bottom right corner bend), As New, unread condition from the original publisher's warehouse! This copy was brought to the Canadian Premiere (June 19, 1999 Hummingbird Centre, Toronto, Ontario) of the Polish classic book by Sienkiewicz titled With Fire and Sword (Ogniem i Mieczem in Polish) made into a film by the legendary Polish director Jerzy Hoffman, and inscribed by Mr. Hoffman along with signing by one of the principal actors Wiktor Zborowski (who played the character Longinus Podipieta). This was done after the film showing of the Canadian Premiere in the Centre lobby. Laid in are two copies of the Program booklets along with two used tickets for the event. Foreword to the book by James Michener. Modern translation from Polish to English of this text by the renowned W. S. Kuniczak. Finding this edition of this historical fiction classic in such nice condition is more difficult under normal circumstances. The signatures as an added bonus make this collectible unique!
Synopsis
With Fire and Sword is a historical novel by the Polish author Henryk Sienkiewicz, published in 1884. It is the first volume of a series known to Poles as the Trilogy, followed by The Deluge (Potop, 1886) and Fire in the Steppe (Pan Wołodyjowski, 1888), also translated as Colonel Wolodyjowski. The novel has been adapted as a film several times, most recently in 1999.
