London: Longmans, Brown, Green, and Longmans, 1856. First Edition, First printing. Hard Cover. Octavo, xxxviii, 648, 24 pages of ads. 2 maps, four color plates, 7 illustrations in text. Appendix IV omitted as usual. Bound in modern three-quater dark brown calf, raised bands, marbled boards, new endpapers, all in fine, like new condition. Interior is very clean, virtually free of any foxing. A beautiful copy with two imperfections: 1) Diagonal tear and wrinkling at bottom of page xxvii. 2) An ink owner inscription, dated 1859, on the reverse of the first colored plate has bled through in places. While noticable, it has a minimal effect on the overall scene.

Very good +. 8 vo. xl, 647 pp. First edition, second issue with hand-colored plates and the omitted index on female circumcision. Rebound c. 1900 in crimson morocco with red cloth, marbled endpapers and matching marbled text edges. All plates, maps present. Condition is VERY GOOD+ ; joints excellent, leather has some mild toning at edges and spine, surface wear at edges. Mild wear to corners, some mild chips at spine tail. Binding tight. Plates all extrenmely clean and bright, frontis retains the tissue, which is in perfect state. Text very clean and bright with no markings. Exploration. RGR.
