Dodd first established The House of Dodd, Mead & Company, publishers, in the Brick Church Chapel, City Hall Park, New York. His first book was a volume of sermons by Gardiner Spring, "The Obligations of the World to the Bible: A Series of Letters to Young Men". Dr. Spring was also Dodd's landlord, and a series of sermons would follow. Religious and lay authors both were represented in the early years.
