In cream colored cloth, spine and little on covers have some speckling, assume that the book was stored in a library where the volume may have been exposed to blowing dust over the years. Stain (water?) on bottom paper edge. The volume was once part of the Massachusetts Historical Library collection, with its bookplate on front lining paper. Overall, a good, tight, clean copy of a very scarce book. One can only imagine the time and skill it took the two artists to accomplish such a task. Vols. 1-4 published as 'Archaeological and historical collections relating to the counties of Ayr and Wigton'; vols. 5-10 published as 'Archaeological and historical collections relating to Ayrshire & Galloway'. Limited editions, no. of copies for each vol. varies. Some vols. have distinctive titles. Each vol. includes List of members. Prefaces of v. 1, 6-7 signed; R.W. Cochran-Patrick; v. 5: Herbert Eustace Maxwell; v. 10: Hew H. Dalrymple. Part of v. 7, and all of v. 8-9 contains the "Protocol book of Robert Broun." Vol. 10 has added t.-p.: The five great churches of Galloway ... drawings by David Macgibbon, LL. D., and Thomas Ross.
