London: John Murray/ Longmans, Green and Co. , 1879. 4th Edition, 1879, of The Five Great Monarchies, John Murray, London; together with 1st Editions of The Sixth (1873 )and Seventh ( 1876 ) Great Monarchies, Longmans, Green and Co., London. bound in late 19th-century half dark brown crushed morocco, five raised bands and gilt lettering, marbled sides, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers. 4 folding maps in Five Great Monarchies, one each in Sixth and Seventh, numerous wood-engraved illustrations in the texts, all of the maps are Fine. The bookplate of Thornton Walbridge front end page or pastedown of each volume, with remains of an earlier bookplate removal in the 3 volumes of The Five Great Monarchies. All Volumes are Near Fine, leather with a few scuffs at the tips. A quite handsome 5 volume set of this important scholarly work. . Fourth Edition. Half Morocco. Near Fine/No Jacket, As Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
