Edward Gorey and Peter Neumeyer met in the summer of 1968 when Gorey had been contacted by publisher Addison-Wesley to illustrated "Donald and the...", a children's book written by Neumeyer. A friendship ensued and resulted in a wealth of letters and postcards between the two through the fall of 1969. While the creative collaborations of the two men centered on illustrated books, the material presented here also paint an intimate portrait of Gorey, a man often mischaracterized as macabre or ebven ghoulish, as gentle, humble and brilliant. The illustrations included throughout are most often the only published examples of these Gorey pieces.
