About This Item
London: A. & C. Black, 1905. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 7". Colonel R. C. Goff. A first edition of this attractive travelogue on Tuscany. In this attractive travelogue, Clarissa Goff interweaves her own impressions of Tuscany with facts and legends about the region. With seventy five colour plates by the author's husband, Robert Charles Goff, collated and complete. Robert Goff was a printmaker and painter who specialised in topographical scenes, and in this work, Clarissa uses her husband's paintings to springboard into her descriptions of Tuscan architecture, painting, and culture. The couple moved to a villa overlooking Florence in the 1890s, and wanted to provide a guide for those visiting the region. With four pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. In the publisher's original red cloth binding. Externally, smart. Very lightly rubbed to the boards, more so to the spine. A little bumped to the head of the spine, which has a small closed tear. The front hinge is starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages throughout. Very Good
