On Aug. 14, 2016, The New York Times Magazine published an unusual issue. It contained just one story, a 42,000-word narrative titled, "Fractured lands", written by Scott Anderson, with photographs by Paolo Pellegrin. The product of some 18 months of reporting, Anderson and Pellegrin's story examined the unraveling of the Arab world since the Untied States invaded Iraq in 2003, a catastrophe that helped lead to the collapse of regimes throughout the middle East, the rise of ISIS and an ongoing global refugee crisis. A haunting look at the chaos and human tragedy taking place in the Middle East.
