New York: WW Norton and Company, (1967). First edition, this copy inscribed, signed, & dated in ink at the half-title page by Warren K Billings to James H Williams. Additionally laid in is the receipt for the book & Williams' cancelled check in payment made out to Billings & endorsed by him on the verso. 8vo, 496 pp, with numerous illustrations from photographs Publisher's maroon paper over boards backed in gilt-lettered gray cloth patterned paper, in pictorial dust jacket

Binding shaken, lightly rubbed, with a couple of nicks at the spine extremities, otherwise good in moderately soiled dust jacket, browned at the spine, with brief edge wear, & front flap corner clipped (price at upper corner intact).

Billings, a labor leader and political activist, was falsely convicted of the 1916 Preparedness Day Bombing in San Francisco in which 10 were killed and 40 injured. Mooney was convicted in a separate trial. Both men were originally sentenced to death but the sentences were commuted to life in prison in 1918. Billings served 23 years and was released in 1939 He was pardoned in 1961 by Governor Edmund G Brown.
