Frontier Spirit, was finished in four different versions, the present copy is one of the finest of all the editions elegantly bound by Harcourt Bindery of Boston in full Harmatan Nigerian Goatskin, raised bands, spine lettering gilt, small color plate mounted to front cover titled "Downing the Nigh Leader" by Frederic Remington, red endpapers, 264p., fully illustrated with 129 full color plates including 6 tipped in. William Foxley is one of five known collector's of major Western Art. For the past 35 years, Bill Foxley, a cattleman, industry innovator and art collector has been acquiring American Western art that spans a period of over 125 years.

Contains a foreword by Pepler plus a list of the items in the exhibition, three with hand written notes, including prices for the items. Printed on Caslon O. F white paper, sewn. Loosely inserted is a hand printed invite to the private preview on Sunday may 5th, 2.30-6pm. (one sheet, 10.9 x 3.8 inches, folded once). The complete English text is present along with a complete translation of the text in French. The original 1853 edition was entirely in English (no French). The book was originally published with the illustrations in sepia over greyish background and not colored. Buyers had several examples hand-colored. This is a reproduction of one of the hand-colored examples. The 1853 original was issued in wrappers. This reproduction is bound in brown cloth with gilt lettering and gilt border front cover with a smaller reproduction of the front cover of the 1853 wrappers inset on the front. Original limited edition, this copy is one of only 150 printed on Arches paper, with one original etching in black on the front cover (Femme nue couchee tournee a droite, Delteil 14). this edition includes 40 reproductions by Renoir in Black, sanguine and in color, executed by Daniel Jacomet. This copy, however, is missing one of the black and white reproductions. Aside from the missing print, the book is in fairly good condition. The front and back covers are tanned, page edges are lightly aged and the binding is loose.
