Biography of English artist and architect Frederick Catherwood (1799 - 1854) best known for his drawings of the ruins of the Maya civilization rendered when he explored Mesoamerica with American explorer, writer, and diplomat John Lloyd Stephens (1805 - 1852). They were pivotal figures in the rediscovery of Maya civilization; their Incidents of Travel in Central America, Chiapas and Yucatán and Incidents of Travel in Yucatán remain classics. This biography includes reproduction of Catherwood's series of twenty-five lithographic "Views of Ancient Monuments. Strong copy despite flaws.
