Tan cloth boards with red titling. 472 pp. Spine slightly tilted, damp stain to spine. Front hinge cracked. Ink ownership inscription to ffep. Dust jacket is price clipped, chipped and worn, age toned, chipped at spine head (with some loss). Kazantzakis is also the author of "Zorba The Greek" and "Christ Recrucified". Also known as "Captain Michalis," it is one of the most widely read books of modern Greek literature which has been translated and published in several languages.

It was written by Nikos Kazantzakis and was first published in Greek in 1953. The writer was influenced by his early years on the island of Crete and uses explicit Greek words and the Cretan idiom in a way that preserves it untouched.
