About This Item

From the Foreword: "H.L. Stephens was a very good illustrator who has been accorded faint praise by the critics. The reason is largely the result of the poor reproductions in which his work appeared. That is why this edition of "A Frog He Would A-Wooing Go" uses the original drawings by Stephens, which are at the moment in private hands at Harvard University, rather than the reproductive lithographs of 1865 which were made from them. The difference is striking: for these drawings can compare with the work of Stephens' far more celebrated contemporary John Tenniel."

About Stillman Books

After closing my most recent bookstore in White Rock, B.C., I have decided to sell strictly online for the foreseeable future. My inventory is heavy on
children's and other illustrated books, along with aviation, sea and naval and other categories. I'm still plugging along after 42 years of book-selling.
