Description:
London: Maggs Bros. Ltd., 1936. All our favorite characters in one catalog! The esteemed English bookselling firm have outdone themselves in this 1930s classic, "Maggs Catalogue 630, June 1936." Many copies were issued in Maggs's stiff red wrappers, and at some point they were bound in red cloth with gold lettering. I don't know whether Maggs had them bound, or not, but I suspect the binding was done quite a while after the catalog was issued. (My reference copy is similarly bound, and I've seen others in identical red boards. Furthmore, the bound-in front wrap of this catalog has tape repairs on its outer edge, suggesting it was put in boards after being issued, read, and used.) One of the classics, and a must for pirate fanciers.. 18 x 24.5 cm. 85, (5 index) pp. b/w facsimiles and ills.
