About This Item

New York Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1991. First Printing . Printed Black Boards. Very Good/No Jacket. 9 1/2" Tall. The book is perhaps deceptively titled. Rather than providing a glimpse of genes clicking on and off as plant physiology develops from embryo to reproduction, it is a highly technical and enterprising collection of case studies that use mutants to demonstrate how various physiological processes affect various plants in various ways. The section headings are: Mutants Affecting Water Relations and Mineral Nutrition; Mutants in Metabolism; Mutants Affecting the Chloroplast and Photosynthesis; Mutants Affecting Vegetative Growth and Development; Mutants Affecting Flower and Fruit Development; and Mutants Affecting Seed Dormancy and Development. 29 Case Studies, 413 pages, with tables, figures, and 2 Indexes; plus xiii pages prefatory matter. Boards are clean and sound; inked name of prior owner on rfEP, title page, and leading text edge; text is strong, but carries underlining and marginalia on about 40 pages. As the marginalia were written by a co-author of Evolutionary Genetics and of Applied Population Biology, they may be considered peer reviewing.
