1924. [1 of 30 signed copies] London: Thirty Copies, numbered and signed by the Author, privately printed by Strangeways and Sons, January 1924. Original light brown wrappers, with glassine dust jacket.

First Edition, being one of 30 copies numbered and signed by Conrad, this being No 13. Conrad wrote this as a general introduction for a serial called Countries of the World (in its inaugural February 1924 issue); a month later it appeared in the U.S., in the National Geographic. It was posthumously collected in LAST ESSAYS. This is a fine copy; the original glassine jacket is still present, and with scarcely any wear. Keating 203. Housed in a simple cloth slipcase.
