About This Item
Hodder & Stoughton, London - 1990 hardcover, 6½" x 9½", with dust jacket Ours is an ex-library copy in transparent protective covering, with usual stamps, stickers and barcode. VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD unclipped dust jacket George Roby, 'The Prime Minister of Mirth', lived from 1869 until 1954, becoming one of the most dominating figures the music-hall ever produced. His huge black eyebrows, little cane, shabby bowler and seedy clerical costume became notorious, as were the catch-phrases he threw with reproving disdain at audiences who persisted in detecting unspeakable double meanings in the patter he delivered with an air of archiepiscopal blandness. Twenty-two photographs.
