The first edition of this work, with illustrations from the author's husband, American draftsman, etcher and lithographer Joseph Pennell.Elizabeth Robins Pennell was an American writer who, for most of her adult life, made her home in London. A recent researcher summed her up as 'an adventurous, accomplished, self-assured, well-known columnist, biographer, cookbook collector, and art critic', who, in addition wrote numerous travelogues.This work charts her time with the traveller population, first in Philadelphia and subsequently in various European locations, such as Budapest and Slovakia.With a contemporary inscription to the recto of front free endpaper, dated Christmas 1902. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Some spots to boards, with rubbing and discolouration to spine. Bumping to spine head and tail.
