Black coloured endpapers. The text is illustrated with black-and-white photography. Black coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Illustrated dustwrapper with red and black coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. The author set out to meet New York City girl gangs. In the book she documents three:  Connie and the Sandman Ladies (Hispanic and Afro-American), Weeza and the Sex Girls (Hispanic) and Sun-Africa and the Five Percent Nation (Afro-American). She reports on the life, and sometimes death, recruitment and clashes with other gangs of these particular gangs. Softening of the backstrip edges and rubbing of the book corners. A little age toning of the text block edges. Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and the remains of a sticker can be seen to the top right hand corner of the front panel.
