New York: Knopf, 1972. First edition. Her scarce, second book. INSCRIBED TO AUTHOR DORIS GRUMBACH, "To Doris, fondly, Gail/ Oct. 24, 1982/ Woodstock, NY." Personal two-page AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED laid in. It reads in part, "Dear Doris, Here is a Glass People. The most peculiar of my books. Not entirely successful, in terms of what I set out to do. But now you have a complete set. Your 'evening,' as you must have seen for yourself, was a splendid success.... I especially liked Mr. MacLeish....I'm very excited about your Cather book [*which Grumbach abandoned] and look forward to your new novel...." Fine in dust jacket with red spine lettering mellowed to pale peach.
