Bound in contemporary full polished calf with matching marbled end papers and all edges. Spine decorated and lettered in gilt, with six compartments, the second and fifth with contrasting red and sepia title labels respectively, the third with oval black volume number label, all other compartmens with various gilt motifs and decoration. With reference to the printed introduction on page 3 - "This poem, one of Mr. Frost's most amusing and whimsical, and one of his own favorites.", Frost has made an "X" at "favorites", and has added in his fine hand at the bottom of the page - " X Nearer correct than I thought / when I first read this statement / R.F." - In fine condition and in a custom collector's black cloth chemise and slipcase, gilt lettered, red calf labels on the spine. Very moving, first-hand testimony on the last moments of Verlaine by his mistress Eugenie Krantz. Close to misery, constantly running after money, she sheltered the dying poet in her apartment at 39 Rue Descartes. He died on the evening of January 8, 1896, just moments after this letter was written.

The unclipped ($2.00) dust jacket is Very Good with some surface soiling and a small chunk missing to crown (not affecting title); 1" hairline crack along joint fold. We find zero copies of either the first or state binding with the dust jacket currently in the trade (June, 2015).

The author graduated Kennett (Missouri) High School in 1973. Copy of newspaper [DDD] article about the KHS reunion on Jan 18, 2004 laid in.
