(price-clipped) [solid copy, minor shelfwear, gilt lettering on spine and front cover still bright, dust-darkening to top edge, light foxing to fore-edge; jacket moderately soiled, a few tiny edge-tears, very slight paper loss at top corners, a handful of thin splatter lines on spine]. (B&W frontispiece) "A rollicking, speedy story of a modern girl, a business girl, very much alive and up-to-date," set in a Chicago suburb. The title character is the sole support for her miserable family (whining mother, useless father, a couple of problem brothers, and even a set of younger twin siblings), and by age twenty had already worked as a stenographer, a ticket-seller at a movie theater (and later its manager and part owner), and an insurance agent.
