This signed first edition from August 1936, the eighth printing in the first summer of publication, is rare as are any of her signed books or other items. In a letter dated February 1937, Margaret Mitchell wrote that she would no longer sign her book, not for friends or even relatives. Butternut (greyish brown) full cloth boards, navy stamped cover and spine titles, some shelf wear, spine crease, discoloration. Deckled pages generally good; wear near gutter to half-title and title page. Some fox, toning, to endpapers; some paper-clip indentations, discoloration to back endpapers, lessening to back few pages. Antiquarian inscription at front endpaper: "Samuel Hoyt Venable, Happy Birthday from Auntie & Bob, Sept. 24th, 1936". Bind intact; front hinge reinforced.
